Dog food aggression or dog feeding aggression is one form of dog aggression behavior.

Dog Food Aggression and Dog Feeding Aggression

In feeding aggression a dog displays its possessiveness and dominance by guarding its food.

The dog might bare its teeth, growl, or bite someone who tries to take its food away from it or who comes too close to its food.

Occasionally in dog food aggression, a dog will even bite its owner’s hand as the owner is placing the food bowl on the floor. This is usually because the dog does not see the owner as the “pack leader.”

Dog feeding aggression should not be ignored or accepted as normal behavior.

It can be a dangerous situation especially if someone, particularly a young child, unknowingly or inadvertently comes near the dog while it is feeding.

Dog Food Aggression Warning to dog owners: Dog aggression behavior in any form, including food aggression, should not be allowed to escalate.

It’s highly recommended that corrective action be taken immediately under the advice of a professional dog trainer using dog behavior training.
